More programs offered to help employees with life situations

Article employee benefits concept

We are seeing a trend in businesses offering employee assistance programs to their employees and BCN Services has such a program available to help employees cope.

These employer-sponsored programs help employees resolve personal problems that may affect work performance and they include free and confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals, and follow-up services.

What does an employee assistance program do?

Typically, an outside insurance program administers the EAP, minimizing the risk of conflicts of interest or of confidential information being discussed at work.

Programs address a broad range of issues affecting an employee’s mental and emotional well-being. Examples include substance abuse, stress, grief, family problems, and psychological disorders.

For example, an employee assistance program covers outpatient counseling. Qualified EAP counselors assess, diagnose and refer employees, as needed, to a psychiatrist or other professional. They can also find a provider in a health care plan or network. Additional services are available through the EAP carrier at specified rates.

It is important to note that these programs are confidential and employees contact the third-party administrator directly to speak with a counselor or make an appointment.

BCN offers an EAP through MetLife

EAP is one of the terrific benefits BCN offers through the MetLife insurance program. It can be added at no cost for employees.

If an employee is going through a particularly hard time personally, it can affect their time while at work. An EAP helps your business when those personal and work life paths intersect.

An effective EAP program has easily accessible information to help employees use it. BCN Services has fliers and other materials available to distribute to employees that explain the process.
